The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is pleased to welcome Ignacio Garcia Bercero, the EU's chief negotiator for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, for a talk.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the European Union and its Member States and the United States. The TTIP was first conceived in November 2011, following a U.S.–EU Summit and the sixth meeting of the Transatlantic Economic Council. Leaders requested that the U.S.–EU High Level Working Group on Jobs and Growth identify ‘policies and measures to increase U.S.–EU trade and investment to support mutually beneficial job creation, economic growth, and international competitiveness.’ The High Level Working Group concluded that the development of a comprehensive bilateral trade and investment agreement would provide the most benefits for the parties.
