CEILA Brexit Series Launch Event

20 January 2017

Time: 10:00am - 7:00pm
Venue: Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, 67-69 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3JB

Brexit raises considerable challenges regarding the future relationship between the UK and the EU as well as between the EU, its Member States and third countries. The Centre for European and International Legal Affairs (CEILA) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is initiating a series of Brexit related events to address challenges and opportunities for shaping the post-Brexit UK-EU relationship.

Our launch event on 20 January will discuss key aspects of the debate regarding the form and shape of cooperation between the UK and the EU focusing particularly on the area of trade as politically and economically the most important question of post-Brexit cooperation. Speakers will review existing available models used by the EU to set up close relationships with its partners, such as Canada, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine so as to assess which elements may be best suited for a “bespoke” UK-EU relationship after Brexit.

Currently confirmed speakers include: Kenneth Armstrong (Cambridge), Catherine Barnard (Cambridge), Lorand Bartels (Cambridge), Marise Cremona (EUI), Sionaidh Douglas-Scott (QMUL), Astrid Epiney (Fribourg), Peter Holmes (Sussex), Adam Lazowski (Westminster), Baroness Ludford (House of Lords), James Mathis (Amsterdam), Nanette Neuwahl (Montreal), Federico Ortino (King’s College London) Andrea Ott (Maastricht), Charles Tannock (MEP), Guillaume van der Loo (Centre for European Policy Studies), and Derrick Wyatt QC (Oxford).

Lunch and refreshments will be served during the day, followed by a drinks reception in the evening.
