Queen Mary, University of London is hosting the first information event of the "Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation" (CAPS) initiative, which will provide funding for research in the region of 15M Euros, within call 10 of the imminent workprogramme 2013 of the EU ICT programme .
This initiative supports an innovative bottom up, multi-disciplinary approach for EU research on social innovation enabled by network technologies.
It aims to stimulating the emergence of genuinely grassroots ideas leveraging on the collaboration potential of the Internet, exploring the convergence between social media, distributed creation of knowledge, and direct access to information from the environment and communities. The CAPS program seeks participation from all technical and humanistic disciplines which can potentially contribute to such techno-social developments: not limited to computer science or telecommunications, but actively involving social media, sociology, anthropology, economy, law, biology, art.
The call, that is expected to be published in July, will accommodate proposals of any size, ranging from individuals or small entrepreneurs, up to NGOs, civil society organisations and larger European consortia.
The information day is the first event in Europe for this programme and it is open to anyone free of charge upon registration.

After the lunch, participants are invited to an open forum to develop and discuss ideas and proposals in areas of interest related to this call.Participants will have the opportunity to make a five minute/three slide presentation and contribute to the start of the discussion. The presentations will be then uploaded on the event web page.
