A play staged by ice&fire, followed by an expert round table and Q&A hosted by the The Human Rights Collegium, Department of Law, QMUL to honour the life of Lisa Jardine.

The Human Rights Collegium, contributing to the wider #RefugeesWelcome initiative launched by Queen Mary, wishes to express solidarity with, and raise awareness about, the dire situation of child refugees in the context of the current refugee crisis. This multimedia initiative, featuring a theatre play followed by expert discussion and Q&A, offers a unique platform to collectively reflect upon and analyse the journeys of children in flight, from the moment they start their journey to the point they reach their destination in Europe and the UK, tracing their experiences of the asylum process and their life after status recognition and/or as failed applicants.

Round Table Speakers

Chaired by Geraldine van Bueren QC, Professor of International Human Rights Law.

About ice&fire

ice and fire logo

ice&fire explores human rights stories through performance. They put human rights at the core of everything they do to make accessible theatre for a wide range of audiences across the UK. They aim to empower people and communities to express their rights through the power of sharing stories and transporting performance. They are a company with a distinct and determined voice, developing original theatre pieces from human rights testimony and documentary evidence. Each piece is shaped by the real people and communities with whom they closely work. From full-scale productions to making small pieces with vulnerable groups, their theatre-making is renowned as provocative, principled and innovative.

Welcome address by Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Head of the Law Department (QMUL).

The event will take place at Arts Two Lecture Theatre and will be followed by a drinks reception to which all attendees are invited.
