PARIS EVENT: Introduction to Derivatives in a Legal Context

11 March 2016

Time: 10:00am
Venue: ULIP, 9-11 rue de Constantine, Paris 7e

The word "derivatives" has become synonymous with risk taking, a source of international headlines, at the centre of a world‑wide financial crisis; yet it still remains a word only very few people truly understand.

The aim of this workshop, designed specifically for lawyers and law students, is to introduce the concept of derivatives, explain the basic types of derivatives, and explore the various combination strategies that have been created in the last decade. The seminar will involve lectures and hands-on experience.

The objective of the seminar is to introduce the concept of derivatives on a basic level. The participants will learn how the various derivative instruments are used and how they have functioned in the complex international financial markets, as well as how they have contributed to market and individual institutional crises. The participants will also learn to generate option strategies in class and analyse the payoff diagrams.

Dr Dorit Samuel is a Visiting Lecturer at the CCLS.
