On the heart in the body politic: Professor Geraldine Van Bueren reviews Martha Nussbaum's 'Political Emotions'

Published:

Professor Geraldine Van Bueren reviews Political Emotions: Why Love Matters for Justice by Martha Nussbaum of the University of Chiacago in the Times Higher Education. The author asks "how can 'decent' societies do more for stability and motivation in cultivating public emotions without becoming illiberal and dictatorial?". "Political Emotions is an important work," Professor Van Bueren explains, "and Nussbaum has created valuable space for love and human imperfection to be weighed more heavily in the search for justice".
