The final seminar in the series will be held at the University of Edinburgh on Friday 28th April 2006. Co-organised with Prof. Jonathan Zeiltin (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and Dr. Susana Borrás (Roskilde University), the seminar brings together a team of academics that have been working and reflecting on the changing nature of European governance. Under the theme of Governance After Lisbon, the papers explore the possibilities and limitations of the governance architecture that has been elaborated in the context of the Lisbon Strategy. While some specific topics such as employment, social inclusion, better regulation are analysed, the intention of all the papers is to identify cross-cutting horizontal themes. Seminar Details 2005
The next seminar in the series will be held at the School of Law, Queen Mary, University of London on Thursday 10 November 2005. The theme of this seminar – Mobilising Actors – explores the extent to which regions, civil society and researchers are mobilising around the Lisbon Strategy. Much of the achievement of the Lisbon Strategy depends on the participation of actors at different levels of governance and the involvement of a variety of stakeholders. Moreover, the legitimacy of the Lisbon Strategy is both dependent upon its ability to engage with civil society, while also contested by civil society, not least in light of the mid-term review. As Member States submit their Lisbon ‘National Reform Programmes’, and following the UK Presidency’s informal social summit, this seminar is a timely opportunity to reflect on who is or is not mobilising around Lisbon. The fourth seminar in the series was held at the London School of Economics and Political Science on Friday 3 June 2005. Its theme – What’s Left Of Lisbon? – explored the ambivalence surrounding both the substantive direction of the Lisbon Strategy and the future of open co-ordination as a governance technique in the wake of the Kok report and of the Mid-Term Review of the Strategy.
