It is examining the state of liberalisation in five services sectors  (communications, distribution, maritime transport, postal and courier  and telecommunications) in 12 major trading partners (Argentina,  Brazil, India, Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Singapore,  Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand). The group is identifying the  de jure laws and regulations in these jurisdictions and analysing the  differential between them and the bilateral, regional and multilateral  trade commitments of these states. The objective is to supply DG Trade  with information to assist them when negotiating with these countries.  Professor Ian Walden is Team Leader for the project and the team of academic experts includes Dr Gabriel Gari, also from Queen Mary, (CCLS), who is co-ordinating the research  input for the Mercosur countries, i.e. Brazil and Argentina.
