UNDP publish research paper co-authored by Professor Duncan Matthews on access to medicines

9 January 2012

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bureau for Development Policy has published a report co-authored by Professor Carlos Correa of the University of Buenos Aires and Professor Duncan Matthews of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary, University of London on The Doha Declaration Ten Years on and its Impact on Access to Medicines and the Right to Health. The report highlights the fact that access to medicines is a human right, enshrined in legally binding international human rights treaties, but goes on to point out that the realisation of access to medicines, including antiretroviral treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS, depends heavily on the legal framework for the production and distribution of medicines, including intellectual property rights, and that numerous problems remain.
