QM Law student co-edits book on 'Parliament and the Law'

Parliament and the Law’ is a new collection of essays by leading Parliamentary officials and legal academics. The book is co-edited by Alexander Horne, QM Law MPhil student, with Professor Gavin Drewery of Royal Holloway, University of London and Professor Dawn Oliver of University College London. The collection also contains a foreward by Sir Ross Cranston, Justice of the High Court and former Solicitor-General.

The book provides a wide-ranging overview of the ways in which the law applies to Parliament. It also examines the arguments around the establishment of a new Bill of Rights for the United Kingdom, as well as discussions on the doctrine of Parliamentary sovereignty. It also contains a chapter co-authored by postgraduate research student at Queen Mary, Jack Simson Caird. The collection was sponsored by the Study of Parliament Group.

In additional to his research at Queen Mary, Alexander Horne is an employed barrister at the House of Commons and is the Senior Policy Adviser at the House of Commons Scrutiny Unit.
