Queen Mary law students now have the opportunity to secure a series of international placements thanks to a new initiative from the Queen Mary Pro Bono Society.The QM Pro Bono Society has developed links with international law firms to arrange overseas placement opportunities that will enable students to gain experience of a different legal jurisdiction as well as boosting their CVs.The initiative is part of the Society’s aim to create a range of experiences that reflect the diversity of Queen Mary students, with a particular focus on the Commonwealth. The School of Law is supporting the scheme by providing bursaries towards travel costs.The Society currently has five placements across Ghana, South Africa and Singapore and has plans to increase the range and number of placements offered. This year they have liaised with DLA Piper in Sydney, Australia to offer two three-week summer placements.Phil Mutton, President of the QM Pro Bono Society said: “There has been a lot of dedicated work behind the scenes to achieve these placements, but we're glad to be able to offer such an exciting opportunity. To work in a different legal jurisdiction and explore a new culture is a great experience as well as a superb addition to your CV.’
