Dr Del Mar to speak on legal reasoning in Edinburgh

Published:

Dr Maks Del Mar, Senior Lecturer in Law and Philosophy and Academic Fellow of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, has been invited to speak at an international workshop on Legal Reasoning, Virtue and Politics, at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh, 13-14 June 2014.

The workshop intends to explore the various developments and the associated claims and counter-claims made about the relevance of virtue not only as an organising concept both in ethics and epistemology, but also – and more importantly – as a concept that might inaugurate a distinct field of inquiry in contemporary jurisprudential debate on legal reasoning. The workshop brings together leading academics in the field of virtue ethics and legal theory to reflect on these issues in order to produce a mutually engaged multi-author study of the state of legal reasoning in the contemporary scene.

Dr Del Mar’s working title for his presentation is 'Defeasible Universalisation as a Personal and an Institutional Virtue: The Ethics and Politics of Justification'.

Dr Del Mar teaches an advanced course on legal reasoning entitled 'The Legal Mind: The Practice and Politics of Legal Reasoning'.
