QM Visiting Professor, Attila Tanzi, appointed member to the Permanent Court of Arbitration

Published:

Professor Attila Tanzi has been appointed to the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at The Hague.

Professor Tanzi convenes the International Environmental Law module on the LLM programme at Queen Mary and is a Visiting Professor until 2016.

The PCA is not a court in the traditional sense, but a permanent framework for arbitral tribunals which resolve specific disputes. Members are nominated by member states on the basis of “known competency in questions of international law, of the highest moral reputation and disposed to accept the duties of arbitrators.” One of the interesting things about PCA members is that they share the privilege with International Court of Justice (ICJ) judges to nominate candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Professor Tanzi currently holds the position of Chairman of the Implementation Committee under the UNECE Water Convention. He is also the Conciliator at the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He has been an External Consultant to the Legal Service of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Italy.
