Postgraduate Essay Competition in Migration Law 2016 Second Edition

Following the launch of the new LLM in Immigration Law programme, Queen Mary University of London School of Law will continue to promote and support research and study in the field of immigration, asylum and refugee law by young academics at LLM and PhD levels.

The essay competition was a great success last year, and we are pleased to announce its return for the 2015/16 academic year.

Who Can Apply

Former and current Queen Mary postgraduate students at LLM and PhD level.

Deadline Of Submissions

5pm 20 January 2016.

Conditions

Essays must be 8,000 words maximum (including footnotes, but excluding bibliography) on any topic relating to migration and/or asylum law, including voluntary and/or forced displacement issues. International, regional, comparative, and UK legal accounts are welcome. Doctrinal, theoretical as well as empirical approaches will be considered.

Students are encouraged to submit pieces of work being prepared as coursework assignments for current modules.

Submissions must indicate full name, ID number, and include the essay in either word or pdf format to: v.moreno-lax@qmul.ac.uk.

Results will be communicated to candidates and published on QMplus by 30 February 2016.

Prize

The winner will be invited to attend the Annual Conference of the prestigious Society of Legal Scholars, Migration Law Section and to submit his/her research to the open call for papers. Successful candidates will earn a place to present their research in Oxford in September 2016. Registration fees, UK tourist-fare transportation to Oxford, and one night accommodation at the venue will be covered by Queen Mary to facilitate participation.
