Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas on Open Democracy: Solidarity Beyond the State in European Refugee Law
3 October 2016
‘Cities of Welcome, Cities of Transit’, Head of the Department of Law and Professor of European Criminal Law, penned an article on the concept of solidarity in European refugee law in Open Democracy on 29 September. Professor Mitsilegas advocates a shift from a state-centered model of solidarity towards a model of solidarity centered on the refugee. The article was part of a special Open Democracy issue including contributions to the conference ‘Cities of Welcome, Cities of Transit’, co-organised by the United Nations University (UNU), Open Democracy and the Queen Mary School of Law and held in Barcelona in July 2016.
