Professor Penny Green quoted in ASEAN Today article on Aung San Suu Kyi possibly allowing ethnic cleansing in Myanmar

Published:

After months of silence, Aung San Suu Kyi’s first public speech addressing the Rohingya Crisis failed to explicitly address the reports of atrocities committed by the military – reports ASEAN Today. The word “Rohingya” was also only used in the context of naming the Rohingya militant group – the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), according to the article. Professor Penny Green said: “She chooses to use the word in relation to a terrorist group, that means that is the only identity that Rohingya will be attached to, from her perspective and she hopes from the international perspective.”
