QLLM348 Music Industry Contracts (Sem 2)

Module description

The course will commence with an overview of the players in the music value chain, and its cultural and economic significance. It will analyse the role of the different parties, i.e. creators, right holders, collective management organisations, commercial users and end consumers. The course will look at the legal aspects of the life of a song throughout the value chain, from inception to exploitation and enforcement, with a focus on the rights which are being transferred in the UK and EU, and the USA. The course will also include reference to other areas of the law of relevance such as competition law and the legal situation of secondary ticketing.
