About the Herchel Smith Scholarship

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) is offering one to two full scholarships worth the full tuition fee (at home student fee rate) to outstanding graduates of UK universities (for full-time candidates only). Full scholarships will be deducted from tuition fees payable to the college.

Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must have a conditional or unconditional offer for the MSc Management in Intellectual Property FT 
  • You can have a UK or International fees status (no Nationality Restrictions). 
  • You must have applied for your programme by 20 May 2024

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Full tuition fee waiver (UK fees rate)

Programme Application Deadline

You must have applied for the MSc Management in Intellectual Property by 20 May 2024 (if you have applied by this date and not received an offer by 10 June 2024 please contact pglawscholarships@qmul.ac.uk quoting your application number and date of initial application.

Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to those who we deem to have successfully demonstrated their reasoning for being awarded a scholarship based on the following criteria;

  • Applicants must hold an offer of study for the Management in Intellectual Property MSc at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London before applying for this funding.
  • Firmly accepted an offer of study by the funding application deadline.
  • Academic merit ( Received at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent)
  • A personal statement must be provided with the application. The personal statement should show your intended career route post-qualification and how you choose to follow a programme in the area of intellectual property.

How to apply

In order to apply for this scholarship please complete and sign the online application form (the link is on the bottom of this page). You will also be required to complete a personal statement.

We will also take into consideration the following documents submitted with your programme application. Please ensure they are all uploaded to the MySIS application portal.

  • Your CV.
  • Full transcript of your grades: Undergraduate/Bachelors level/first degree level and Postgraduate/Masters (if applicable).
  • 1 x reference letter

Incomplete, incorrect or late scholarship applications will not be accepted or processed.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately any time after the 14 July 2024 please wait to be contacted in this regard.

Please note that scholarship (both applications and awards) cannot be deferred.

What are scholarship winners required to do?

The successful candidate is required to put together a two A4- page report for the Scholarship provider at the end of the academic year. The report should outline the progress and content of the Scholar’s practice, how he/she benefitted.

The successful candidate may be asked to assist with Queen Mary marketing events such as postgraduate open evenings and/or web/video student profiles; as well as supporting Queen Mary School of Law in promoting the scholarship (e.g. through interviews, photos and presence at events).
