Profile

Donald Francis Donovan is a Partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York. He was recently identified as one of the ten leading international arbitration practitioners in the world by Chambers Global (2006). Donald Donovan is Vice-President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and a member of the Board of Directors of Human Rights First (until recently the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights).  He recently completed a five-year term as Chair of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, and he has served as Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the U.S. Council for International Business, a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration, and a member of the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law.  He served as Program Co-Chair of the Centennial Meeting of the American Society of International Law (Washington, D.C., March 2006), and as Program Chair of the XIV Congress of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (Montreal, June 2006). He teaches international arbitration at New York University School of Law and regularly speaks and writes on international arbitration, international litigation and international law topics. His research interests include International Commercial Litigation, International and Comparative Commercial Arbitration, and International Trade and Investment Dispute Settlement.
