Professor Mitsilegas at the EU Fundamental Rights Agency

Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas addressed a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Data Protection and Privacy, held at the EU Fundamental Rights Agency in Vienna on 21 February 2011. The meeting focused on the development of the future role of the Agency in the field of privacy and data protection and the issues discussed included judicial redress, privacy in the digital era and data protection in the EU.

Queen Mary Student wins University of London's Georg Schwarzenberger Prize for Best Performance in LLM International Law

The winner will be announced on 3 March 2011.

Lord Phillips launches judicial independence project

The President of the UK Supreme Court, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, gave a lecture on 8 February to launch a three year AHRC-funded research project on ‘The Politics of Judicial Independence in Britain’s Changing Constitution’ which is being undertaken jointly by the School of Law at Queen Mary, the Constitution Unit at University College London and the School of Law at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Phoebe Okowa appointed as Hauser Global Visiting Professor at New York University
8 February 2011

Dr Phoebe Okowa has been appointed a Hauser Global Visiting Professor at New York University, School of Law for autumn 2011. During her tenure she will teach a course on disputed topics in international law of armed conflict and international criminal law. In addition she will continue research for her book on Sovereignty Contests and the Protection of Natural Resources in Conflict Zones.
