Queen Mary University of London collaborated with Sciences Po Law School, Paris and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution - Young & International (ICDR Y&I) to host their annual conference 'Nationality in International Arbitration' on 13 November.

The event discussed nationality in international arbitration, from an international commercial as well as from an investment arbitration perspective.

The panelists included Professor Julian Lew QC and Dr Maxi Scherer, from Queen Mary University of London, as well as Professor Diego Fernández Arroyo from SciencesPo Law School, alongside experts from Allen & Overy, Betto Seraglini, Dechert, Ginestié Magellan Paley-Vincent, Lazareff LeBars, McDermott Will & Emery and White & Case.

ICDR Y & I is a professional-development organisation for international dispute resolution practitioners under the age of 40. It was created to provide opportunities for the younger members of the field to network and learn from peers and more senior practitioners.

Dr Maxi Scherer is Director of the Queen Mary LLM in Paris, Senior Lecturer in International Arbitration and Energy at Queen Mary and a member of the Executive Board of the ICDR Y & I. She said: “This annual event attracts a growing interest, with over 100 registered attendees this year. The event was subdivided in two panels, both of which sparked very lively debates among the speakers and the audience.”
