Professor Loukas Mistelis speaks at event on "Gender (in)Equality in International Arbitration"
8 June 2016
Professor Loukas Mistelis, Clive M Schmitthoff Professor of Transnational Commercial Law and Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), spoke at at event on "Gender (in)Equality in International Arbitration", hosted by the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr) and the non-governmental organisation Arbitral Women, on 2 June in São Paulo, with the support of CAM-CCBC.
Professor Mistelis assessed that although the percentage of women entering a career is law in very near the percentage of men, few women reach the top. In the UK, for example, 15% of women become partners in law firms and only 6% of women in law are arbitrators. In Brazil, the situation of women in arbitration is a little better: between 8% and 16%. These figures reflect each society, he found.
